Major Objectives

  1. Tackling rural poverty through promoting sustainable farming systems which are environmentally sound, economically viable and socially acceptable, fostering rational utilization of natural resources for sustainable development in healthy, cleaner and friendly environment in order to ensure food security, diversify sources of income and improved livelihoods of communities,
  2. Empowering/awakening the communities to own and manage the environmental resources sustainable using their indigenous knowledge and incorporating science and low cost technology , bio energy tech, sustainable artisanal mining, forest management
  3. Policy advocacy and research , initiate and coordinate community based strategies for livelihood improvement and sustainable utilization of resources so as to ensure participatory sustainable use through out.
  4. To sustain: fisheries, wetlands, local mines, forestry, land use management, biodiversity conservation.
  5. To promote environmentally sound investments, community managed based income generating activities aimed to reduce income poverty, which are conscious of the environmental impact, Encourage the communities in Tanzania and especially in the Lake Victoria basin improve their economy, health status and sanitary conditions and contribute to processes aimed at haltering the ongoing spread of HIV/AIDS, poverty, illiteracy, malaria and other pandemic diseases, protect water resources and their environment.

To contributes community led-efforts in improving livelihoods and managing environment through sustainable utilization of natural resources and application of environmentally sound, economically viable and socially acceptable appropriately technology for sustainable development and economic justice.

Our Approaches:

SIDI focus and prioritize research based interventions to favor and benefits environmental health and management connected to reduce poverty, reveal hidden information and challenges on development, food insecurity ,youths and women’s isolation in development and aligned social needs


Focus Program/Interventions:

Participatory environmental management and conservation of natural resources, sustainable small scale mines, fish farming, bee keeping, agro forestry, IT and policy advocacy and lobbying on natural resources management and utilization, Micro enterprise development and microfinance practices for social economic growth, and series of the cross cutting issues.
